Forceful crackdown on protests will backfire, Pastor Schugger tells Nigerian govt

By Collins Nkwocha

The nation witnessed a protest for the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in Abuja. Reports had it that teargas was used on the peaceful protesters.

Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer was arrested by security operatives; likewise, Nnamdi Kanu’s brother was arrested.

The founder of Grace Revolution International Ministry, Lagos, Pastor Schugger Ezenwa Onyeukwu, has implored the president, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, to stop the use of coercion, violence and intimidation against peaceful protesters because protest is constitutional and every Nigerian has the right to do so.

Speaking about the aftermath of yesterday’s protest, Pastor Schugger urged the president to release those who were arrested yesterday.

“The president needs to know that the continuous use of force will only make him and his government unpopular and lose legitimacy.

“He should be wise so that they don’t use these things against him, I want to appeal to him to release Kanu’s brother and Kanu’s Lawyer, let’s not aggravate the already tensed atmosphere in the country because if he keeps Kanu’s brother and Kanu’s Lawyer there, alongside with others that were arrested, it will be misinterpreted and this will not be good for the president”
