FENRAD condemns Agwan Rukuba killings, demands swift justice

Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development (FENRAD) has condemned the recent killings in Agwan Rukuba community, Jos North LGA, describing the attack as “shocking and unacceptable,” and has called on security agencies to ensure swift justice for the victims while strengthening measures to prevent future violence.

According to the Executive Director, FENRAD, Com. Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, these barbaric acts, which have plunged families and the entire community into grief and sorrow, represent a grave violation of human rights and the sanctity of human life.

FENRAD expressed deep outrage over the senseless violence unleashed on vulnerable residents, resulting in the tragic loss of lives, injuries, and heightened fear within the community.

“Such recurring incidents are unacceptable and demand urgent and decisive intervention. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and stand in solidarity with the people of Angwan Rukuba, as well as the Government of Plateau State, during this painful period. We also pray for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries,” he lamented.

FENRAD calls on security agencies to rise to the occasion by conducting a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation into this unfortunate incident.

The perpetrators of these heinous acts must be identified, apprehended, and brought to justice without delay. Ending impunity is essential to restoring confidence and ensuring lasting peace.

Furthermore, they urged the Federal Government and all relevant stakeholders to strengthen security presence in Angwan Rukuba and other vulnerable communities across Jos North LGA.

“Improve intelligence gathering and early warning mechanisms to forestall future occurrences, provide immediate humanitarian support to affected families and victims, promote peaceful coexistence through inclusive dialogue and community-based conflict resolution initiatives.

FENRAD reiterated that the protection of lives and property is a fundamental responsibility of government at all levels and must be treated with the utmost seriousness.

They call on all Nigerians to reject violence and work collectively toward peace, unity, and sustainable development.
