DMCA launches PCRD technology to deliver 35-year renewable power solution in Nigeria

In a major step toward addressing Nigeria’s longstanding electricity challenges, DMCA Energy Nigeria Limited has unveiled a new renewable energy innovation designed to provide uninterrupted power supply for decades.

The technology, known as the Principle of Converted Regenerative Device (PCRD), was introduced during a media briefing in Lagos, where industry stakeholders, technical experts, and business leaders gathered to witness the public presentation of the solution.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of DMCA Energy and inventor of the technology, Mr. Christopher Amabi, the PCRD system represents a shift toward clean, reliable, and cost-effective electricity generation capable of transforming Nigeria’s energy landscape.

Amabi explained that the device operates using a closed-loop hydraulic process that generates energy without fuel combustion, emissions, or excessive noise.

The system converts hydraulic force into electricity and continuously regenerates the energy cycle, enabling constant power generation without dependence on fossil fuels.

He noted that the technology is designed for wide-scale application, with the capacity to generate electricity ranging from 50 kilowatts to 10,000 megawatts, making it suitable for industries, hospitals, universities, estates, data centres, commercial hubs, and government infrastructure projects.

Beyond its technical capabilities, DMCA Energy also introduced a consumer-friendly business model through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) structure.

Under this model, the company installs and maintains the system, while customers pay only for electricity consumed, removing the need for heavy upfront capital investment typically associated with generators or large solar installations.

Amabi described the innovation as a dual-purpose solution capable of serving as both primary and backup power, eliminating the uncertainty many Nigerian businesses and households face due to unstable grid supply.

As part of its pilot rollout phase, the company announced the availability of 100 PCRD units for immediate deployment to early subscribers, particularly targeting energy-intensive users such as factories, industrial estates, hospitals, and large commercial facilities.

To ensure credibility and public confidence, the company disclosed that the technology has undergone technical evaluation and certification by key institutions, including the Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos, and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

The Lagos State Government has also reviewed the innovation and recommended further independent testing before large-scale nationwide deployment.

Tracing the development journey, Amabi revealed that research on the technology began in 2001, with the first prototype built in Abuja in 2009. A more advanced version was later deployed in South Africa in 2019, where it has reportedly operated continuously for over five years.

Speaking at the unveiling, the National President, Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Dr. Jani Ibrahim, described the innovation as potentially transformative for Nigeria’s economy, noting that reliable electricity remains essential for industrial growth and national competitiveness.

He emphasized the need for independent proof-of-concept testing to strengthen industry confidence and accelerate adoption across sectors.

With millions of Nigerians still lacking access to stable electricity and businesses spending heavily on diesel and petrol generators, stakeholders believe scalable renewable technologies like PCRD could significantly reduce energy costs, boost productivity, and support national economic growth.

As DMCA Energy begins phased deployment across the country, expectations are high that the PCRD initiative could represent a turning point in Nigeria’s quest for sustainable and affordable power supply.
