Chris Odeh’s Choke set to hit Nigerian cinemas September 16

Nigerian psychological thriller Choke, produced by Chris Odeh, is scheduled to open in cinemas on Friday, 16 September 2022, with distribution handled by Blue Pictures Entertainment.

The revised date follows the postponement of its previously announced July 29 release. The production brings together established Nollywood performers and emerging talent for a story exploring illness, betrayal and revenge.

Directed by Damilola Orimogunje, professionally known as Orimz, from a screenplay by Uche Ateli, Choke follows Kosisochukwu Okoye, a young man living with sickle cell disease.

An opportunity for life-changing treatment offers him hope, but a devastating betrayal threatens his future and sets him on a dark path.

The story examines how physical suffering and emotional disappointment can affect a person’s relationships and decisions. Through its central character, the film raises questions about family responsibility, religious influence and the vulnerability of people searching for relief from difficult circumstances.

Chimezie Imo takes the lead role as Kosisochukwu Okoye. He is joined by veteran actors Kanayo O. Kanayo, Norbert Young and Gloria Anozie Young, alongside Nkem Marchie and Trinity Ugonabo.

Their characters form the world around a young man whose search for love and survival gradually becomes a revenge mission.

Choke is the flagship project of Sozo Films, founded by Chris Odeh and Ramsey Nouah. Its forthcoming theatrical release introduces the company’s psychological thriller to Nigerian cinema audiences, with Blue Pictures Entertainment overseeing distribution.

By bringing sickle cell disease into the centre of a dramatic narrative, the film presents a story in which health, hope and personal choice are closely connected. Audiences will encounter a troubled protagonist whose response to betrayal drives the tension, inviting reflection on the consequences of desperation and broken trust.
