Champion Breweries reaches over 1,300 with free medical services in Akwa Ibom

More than 1,300 persons with various health challenges have received free medical care through a medical outreach organised by Champion Breweries, for indigenes of Nung Oku Community in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The two-day medical outreach, conducted in collaboration with Ima Bridge Hospital at the hospital premises, featured free eye consultations, health education sessions, eye screening and distribution of reading glasses, screening and treatment for malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and other common conditions, as well as health awareness campaigns tailored to support residents of the community.

Addressing the people before flagging off the event, the Managing Director of Champion Breweries, Dr. Inalegwu Adoga, said the company has long been committed to delivering life-touching projects that enhance the wellbeing of the people of the state, reaffirming its dedication to positively impacting its host communities.

Represented by Head of Logistics and Operational Excellence, Mr. Theophilus Akporie, the Managing Director maintained that the company would remain committed to ensuring that its host communities and the good people of Akwa Ibom State continue to benefit from its operations.

According to him, “We are delighted to be part of this medical outreach. It is part of our corporate social responsibility, and we are committed to your welfare. We are here to provide quality medical care for your health needs. Medical experts will also counsel you on common health challenges and general wellness.”

The Managing Director urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the outreach to address their various health challenges and advised them to pay close attention to the health education sessions to enable them to live healthier lives.

He further noted that the initiative was another way of giving back to society and ensuring that host communities are rewarded for their continued support and cooperation with the company.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Hon. Edidiong Joseph Inyang, described the free medical outreach by Champion Breweries as impactful and timely.

He said, “We are pleased to have your company once again extend its corporate social responsibility to the people of Ibesikpo Asutan. We will continue to support your company. I am sincerely touched by your benevolence and look forward to more of such initiatives in the years ahead.”

The council chairman emphasised that no investment in the health sector is too much, as the wellbeing and welfare of the people remain paramount, while urging other corporate organisations to emulate Champion Breweries.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Ima Bridge Hospital, Dr. Joseph Ekpeyong, highlighted the causes of ailments such as high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, and others, stressing that many of them can be prevented through healthy living and regular medical check-ups.

Beneficiaries of the outreach who spoke with journalists expressed deep-seated gratitude to Champion Breweries Plc for the intervention and urged the company to sustain the gesture.

They commended the brewery for its unwavering dedication to improving healthcare access and community wellbeing.

One of the beneficiaries, an octogenarian, Madam Ekaette Etim Okon, said the medical outreach had restored her hope and confidence to keep moving forward.
