By Hon. (Pst ) Emma Chidi Ofoegbu

An open letter to your office as Ohanaeze President Worldwide

Please I am writing this open letter to you, to draw your attention to the following publications in the Vanguard Newspapers, Wednesday, April 17,2024, page 26, and the New Telegraph, Tuesday 16, 2024 page 10 respectively.

Based on these two publications and the claims and counter claims contained therein, I have these representations to make in respect of who is Lagos State Ohanaeze President .

I want to publicly declare and state that within the period, I  was the chairman of the biggest local government area in Lagos State, leading and serving the whole Ndigbo in that clime, and Lagos State in general, as the secretary of the chairmen forum respectively.

I also know that politically and socially, Alimosho Local Government Area stands out as a strategic constituency in every important question and decision in Lagos State.

I must also add that apart from cultural affairs where Ohanaeze  Ndigbo falls into, I am actively participating in the educational, political and social activities going on in that LGA and the wider Lagos State.

I want to admit openly that I participated in , and played active and leading roles in the election and processes, that threw up, Chief Solomon Ogbonna  Aguene as the current Lagos State Ohanaeze President.

And my humble self and Igbos in Alimosho LGA that I led and served , participated actively and fully in the highly democratically contested ,and accepted election and from where Solomon Ogbonna Aguene emerged as Ohanaeze President ,Lagos State chapter.

Other local government chairmen in Lagos State and Ndigbo there also participated. No other valid election has been organized since then till now .

I am challenging openly any other person parading themselves as President ,vice ,Secretary and all what nought ,to publish on the pages of Newspapers in Nigeria ,the people that voted for him to become president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

We are aware some of these people who want to become what, can go to Ikotun bus stop and Ojuelegba, to hire thugs and touts and disguise them as Igbos, after being paying them,  to do so, in order to participate in illegal and invalid arrangements called election.

Ohanaeze body is not a gathering of touts in bus stops.

Ohanaeze  is an organization formed by the best of the educated elites of some past generations.

To debase it as some strollers are trying to do in Nigeria is an abomination.

A person that has a genuine case doesn’t need to resort to back door business.

They must follow the due and recognized path , to deserve attention.

You don’t have the right to be challenging a President with a valid mandate, when no one knew how you emerged ; something not recognized by custom, tradition or law.

The question of tenure ship can be discussed, because that position is not a life time entitlement.

And ethics demands that as long as there is an elected president in office ,his position is valid ;until another official and recognized election is conducted for another person to take over.

The new person must take over from the former president.

That is the rule and and valid leadership etiquette.

Let’s focus on the challenges facing Igbos in Nigeria, and stop distracting people who are helping Igbos to be relevant where ever they are around the world.

Ndigbo ga adi.

Ofoegbu, Former Chairman, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Alimosho LGA; & Secretary, Lagos State Ohanaeze Chairmen Forum respectively .
