The dilemma only gets worse in a society where it feels like every news story emphasizes how urgent our climate and environmental crisis is. With climate change and environmental degradation continuing their inexorable rise and posing a complex threat to our planet’s future, the world community finds itself at the crossroads of a planetary crisis.

The increase in extreme weather occurrences is one of the most noticeable and direct effects of climate change. Natural catastrophes are occurring more frequently and with greater intensity around the world. Examples include destructive wildfires in Australia and

California and hurricanes in the Atlantic that break records. Communities all throughout the world struggle with the fallout, raising concerns about our capacity to adjust and lessen the effects.

As we grapple with these challenges it is crucial that we prioritize cooperation and take decisive action. International agreements, like the Paris Agreement seek to curb warming and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is essential that we focus on transitioning to renewable energy sources, preserving ecosystems and adapting to the changing climate as elements of our response.

According to national geographic half of the world’s oxygen is produced via phytoplankton photosynthesis. The other half is produced via photosynthesis on land by trees, shrubs, grasses, and other plants.

As green plants die and fall to the ground or sink to the ocean floor, a small fraction of their organic carbon is buried. It remains there for millions of years after taking the form of substances like oil, coal, and shale.

The underestimated phytoplanktons has contributed 50% of the world’s oxygen.

The rhythm of climate and environmental changes continues unabated, growing more ominous with each passing day. The actions we undertake in the coming years will determine the fate of our planet and future generations. Will we rise to the occasion? Steer our world towards a resilient future?
