Adamawa 2027: Wafarninyi, Sudi Abba pledge inclusive governance, youth empowerment

The governorship candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Adamawa State, Hon. Pharmacist Wafarninyi Theman, and his running mate, Alhaji Ahmed Sudi Abba, have pledged to prioritise youth and women empowerment in their proposed administration ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The duo commited an engagement with representatives of Adalchi Foundation and One Cap United at the YPP state office, where issues of humanitarian support, vocational training, grassroots development and inclusive governance featured prominently.
The meeting brought together members of the two organisations, whose activities focus on community support, humanitarian interventions, skills acquisition and improving the living conditions of vulnerable people.
Speaking at the gathering, the YPP State Chairman emphasised the importance of commitment, diligence and grassroots participation, describing Wafarninyi’s relationship with local communities as a significant aspect of his political engagement.
He also highlighted the party’s vision of placing young people and women at the centre of its development agenda.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the support groups to explain their activities and the contributions they have made towards addressing social and economic challenges in their communities.
The Chairman of One Cap United explained that the organisation was established to provide young people with productive alternatives through vocational training and skills acquisition.
According to him, the group offers opportunities for young people to acquire practical skills in tailoring, cap-making, carpentry, shoemaking and fabric dyeing, among other trades.
He said the initiative was designed to equip participants with income-generating abilities, promote self-reliance and discourage involvement in destructive activities often associated with unemployment and idleness.
Similarly, the Chairman of Adalchi Foundation highlighted the organisation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society, particularly the less privileged, sick and economically disadvantaged, while also promoting youth empowerment.
He further shared personal accounts of how members of his family had benefited from Wafarninyi’s empowerment interventions, expressing appreciation for the support received.
In his remarks, the deputy governorship candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Sudi Abba, commended both organisations for their humanitarian contributions and commitment to community development.
He reaffirmed the party’s belief that YPP represents a platform for progress, social inclusion and opportunities for ordinary citizens.
Wafarninyi also praised the organisations for their contributions to society, noting that supporting people and community-driven initiatives was an expression of genuine concern for humanity.
He explained that the assistance provided through his political movement was offered willingly and from the heart, stressing the importance of collaboration with individuals and organisations already making positive contributions to society.
The engagement comes amid growing conversations about the need for political leadership to address unemployment, poverty and limited economic opportunities, particularly among young people and women.
For Adamawa State, a youth- and women-focused development agenda would require more than political commitments. It would involve sustained investment in vocational education, access to finance, mentorship, entrepreneurship, job creation and opportunities for women to participate meaningfully in economic and public life.
The activities of Adalchi Foundation and One Cap United also demonstrate the potential of community-based organisations to complement government efforts in addressing social challenges.
However, the ultimate test of any proposed administration’s commitment to inclusive governance will be its ability to translate campaign promises into sustainable policies, measurable programmes and tangible improvements in people’s lives.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election, the people of Adamawa will be looking beyond campaign declarations to assess the credibility of political promises and the capacity of aspirants to deliver meaningful development.
