Abeokuta in shock: Prophetess killed in mysterious attack, suspect dies in police custody

A chilling and violent attack has shaken the Olorunda Road area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, leaving two dead and an entire community in shock. The incident has sparked widespread concern and fear, with many calling for increased security measures.

As details of the attack continue to emerge, the community remains gripped by uncertainty and grief.

According to a report, at around 11:45 PM on Thursday, May 15, 2025, a 26-year-old man was spotted attempting to break into the home of Prophetess Abosede Ajibare at Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Orisunmbare Parish 2 using a digging tool.

A concerned neighbour confronted the young man, who responded by chasing him with the tool in an apparent attempt to cause harm.

The neighbour fled and alerted the police at a nearby checkpoint. Unfortunately, by the time authorities arrived, the suspect had already attacked Prophetess Ajibare with a shovel in a brutal and fatal assault.

Police officers managed to stop and arrest the assailant by shooting him in the leg. While being questioned, the man admitted he had been sent to kill the woman and her children—but refused to reveal who sent him.

The suspect later died in police custody on Friday, May 17, 2025.

Prophetess Ajibare, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to the Federal Medical Center in Abeokuta on Friday, May 16. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

Authorities have since launched a full investigation into the incident, particularly focusing on identifying who may have orchestrated the attack. The motive remains unclear, and the community remains on edge.
