How 14-year-old girl’s complaint exposed alleged abuse of her elder sister by Pastor

Lagos State Police Command has arrested the General Overseer and founder of First Born Church in the Isolo area of Lagos State over allegations that he sexually abused two daughters of a church member.

The suspect was arrested following a petition submitted to the police by the father of the two girls, who is reportedly an adherent of the church.

According to a police source, the petition was dated July 28, 2026, and prompted the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Fatai Tijani, to direct the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.

The pastor is accused of sexually abusing the elder of the two sisters when she was allegedly 13 years old.

The source said the alleged abuse continued for several years, with the suspect allegedly having sexual relations with the girl at the church until she turned 16 and subsequently gained admission into a university.

The allegations reportedly came to wider attention after the pastor was accused of sexually assaulting the younger sister, aged 14, on two occasions.

According to the police source, the suspect allegedly used religious teachings and manipulative biblical injunctions to gain the younger girl’s trust and allegedly induce her into submitting to the abuse.

The source said the alleged method was similar to the approach the pastor was accused of using in the case involving the elder sister.

Following the alleged assaults, the 14-year-old reportedly informed her parents about what had happened.

It was during discussions with their daughter and the subsequent investigation by the family that the elder sister allegedly disclosed that she had also been sexually abused by the pastor from the age of 13.

The source said the revelation prompted the father to petition the police, leading to the arrest of the cleric.

The police source further claimed that the suspect, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to the offences.

The matter is currently being investigated by the Gender Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Yaba, under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department, Mr Dayo Akinbisehin.

Police authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations, including the relationship between the suspect and the victims, the circumstances under which the alleged offences occurred, and whether other persons may have been affected.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the police source.

The suspect is expected to be charged before a court upon the conclusion of the investigation, subject to the outcome of the probe and legal advice.

The Lagos State Police Command has continued to emphasise the need for members of the public, particularly parents and guardians, to report suspected cases of sexual abuse involving children and other vulnerable persons to law enforcement authorities.

The allegations against the pastor remain subject to due process, and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
