Obey traffic rules during festive period, LASTMA Boss advises drivers

General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria and beyond as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, while also calling for strict adherence to road safety regulations and responsible driving throughout the festive period.

According to the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, Bakare-Oki, who spoke on behalf of the management and entire workforce of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, described Eid-el-Kabir as a sacred season that symbolises sacrifice, faith, tolerance, obedience to Almighty Allah and peaceful coexistence among humanity.

According to him, the celebration offers Muslims an opportunity for deep spiritual reflection and renewed commitment to virtues such as compassion, discipline, selflessness and harmony in society.

The LASTMA boss urged motorists, commercial transport operators, pedestrians and other categories of road users across Lagos State to exercise patience, vigilance and civic responsibility before, during and after the celebration to safeguard lives and property.

He specifically warned against reckless driving, excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, route violations and other traffic infractions capable of causing avoidable road crashes and needless loss of lives.

Bakare-Oki further cautioned drivers against operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, narcotic substances or any intoxicating agents capable of impairing alertness, coordination and proper judgment while on the road.

He stressed that strict compliance with government-approved speed limits, traffic regulations and road safety protocols remains critical to ensuring a peaceful, hitch-free and accident-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the state.

According to him, officers of LASTMA would be strategically deployed across major highways, critical traffic corridors and key intersections within Lagos to guarantee smooth vehicular movement, strengthen traffic management operations and provide emergency response services whenever necessary throughout the festive season.

The General Manager also appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with traffic management officials and other security agencies by obeying all extant traffic laws and safety directives put in place to maintain public order and collective safety.

Bakare-Oki thereafter wished Muslim faithful a peaceful, joyous and spiritually rewarding Eid-el-Kabir celebration, while praying for sustained peace, unity, prosperity and socioeconomic progress in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
