Opinion: When loyalty silences truth

In times of religious and ethnic crises, the true test of humanity is not found in what we say, but in what we choose to stand for. Sadly, these are also the moments when many abandon conscience, surrendering to political ideologies and religious sentiments that demand loyalty at the expense of truth.

It is troubling how easily people become so consumed by identity that they begin to defend the indefensible, justify injustice, and suppress the quiet voice of reason within them.

In such moments, truth becomes inconvenient, and conscience is treated as weakness.

But truth does not belong to any tribe, religion, or political party. It stands above all allegiances. The moment we choose bias over fairness, and sentiment over sincerity, we do more than harm others—we diminish our own humanity.

No belief, no cause, no affiliation should ever be powerful enough to strip us of our sense of justice and compassion. When loyalty demands silence in the face of wrongdoing, it ceases to be loyalty and becomes complicity.

This is a call to awaken. We must rise above divisions, reject blind allegiance, and rediscover the strength that lies in unity and moral courage. Progress is not measured by how fiercely we defend our differences, but by how boldly we uphold truth, justice, and the dignity of every human life.

What is religion without compassion? What is politics without justice? What is identity without humanity?

If we cannot answer these questions honestly, then we risk losing not just our direction as a people, but our very essence as human beings.

May peace triumph over violence, justice prevail over indifference, and may humanity always come before identity.
