Gov Diri mobilises Bayelsans for President Tinubu’s historic visit

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has called on all residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome President Bola Tinubu during his scheduled visit to the state on April 10, 2026.

According to the Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri made the appeal at Easter Sunday service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in his hometown, Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.

He described the visit as a key moment for Bayelsa, offering citizens an opportunity to showcase their renowned hospitality and unity.

“The projects to be inaugurated during the President’s visit are central to our economic development and transformation,” Diri said. “I call on all Bayelsans to come out en masse to welcome Mr. President and accord him the hospitality that we are known for. As Ijaw people, we are known for peace and unity, and this should guide our actions as we host our guest.”

Governor Diri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the state’s infrastructural and economic development, highlighting key projects set for inauguration.

Among them is the 60-megawatt gas turbine project, which he described as critical for improving electricity supply—a major driver of economic growth in the state.

He also emphasized the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma bridge, calling it a historic milestone for the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. “For over 60 years, our people in Southern Ijaw have had no direct road access to Yenagoa. This bridge changes that reality and opens Bayelsa to greater opportunities.”

On the occasion of Easter, Governor Diri urged citizens to reflect on the message of love and sacrifice exemplified by Jesus Christ, encouraging unity and mutual respect among Bayelsans.

The service was attended by notable dignitaries, including the governor’s wife, Dr. Gloria Diri, Deputy Governor Peter Akpe, Head of Service Dr. Wisdom Sawyer, and Acting Chief of Staff Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo. Also present were lawmakers, former government officials, commissioners, and other key stakeholders in the state.

Governor Diri’s call underscores the administration’s vision of using strategic infrastructure projects and community engagement to place Bayelsa on the map as a hub for investment, tourism, and socio-economic growth.
