CFRA decries Jos killings, seeks renewed commitment to peace

Christian Faith Reporters Association (CFRA) has called on Nigerians to embrace hope, justice, and a renewed commitment to peace as Christians across the country and around the world mark this year’s Easter celebration.

In a press release signed by the President of the Christian Faith Reporters Association (CFRA), Adeola Ogunlade, the association extended warm Easter greetings to the Christian faithful, describing the season as a sacred period that symbolizes sacrifice, redemption, and the triumph of life over death.

However, it lamented that this year’s celebration is clouded by grief following the killing of innocent civilians in Jos, Plateau State, on Palm Sunday.

CFRA described the tragic incident as deeply disturbing, noting that a season meant for spiritual reflection, peace, and renewal was instead overshadowed by violence, sorrow, and loss of lives.

The association stressed that such acts undermine the sanctity of human life and threaten the moral fabric of society.
Reflecting on the significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, CFRA urged Nigerians, especially those in positions of authority, to uphold the core values of Easter, including sacrifice, justice, love for humanity, and the courage to confront evil.

It warned that no nation can achieve sustainable development in an atmosphere of fear and recurring bloodshed.

The association expressed solidarity with families who lost loved ones in the attacks, as well as affected communities, emphasizing that their pain resonates across the country.

It insisted that the demand for justice must not be ignored, adding that Easter offers a message of hope even in the face of profound tragedy.

While acknowledging ongoing efforts by the government at various levels to address insecurity, CFRA maintained that more decisive, proactive, and sustained measures are urgently required.

It noted that the recurring nature of attacks on vulnerable communities highlights the need for a more strategic and result-oriented security approach.

CFRA further called on relevant authorities to ensure the swift apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for the killings, alongside the implementation of concrete measures to prevent future occurrences.

It stressed that every Nigerian deserves the right to live, work, and worship without fear.

The association also urged citizens to take advantage of the Easter season to promote peace, unity, and mutual respect across religious and ethnic divides.

It called for a collective resolve to reject violence and work towards building a just, safe, and harmonious society.

CFRA concluded by expressing hope that the message of Easter would inspire national healing, strengthen the pursuit of peace, and guide the country toward restoration and lasting stability.
