The Mirror Newspaper National Conference and Award Ceremony has named Engr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga, Technical Adviser on Public Transport Rail at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, is a recipient of its prestigious Excellence Award for Heroes of Our Time.

The award, instituted by The Mirror Newspaper, recognises individuals whose expertise, innovation, and dedication have significantly contributed to infrastructure development, urban mobility, and public service delivery.

According to the organisers, Engr. Okusaga has played a critical role in the planning, development, and implementation of rail transport systems aimed at transforming transportation across Lagos State.

His contributions have supported the emergence of a more structured, efficient, and sustainable public transport network.

Through his work with LAMATA, he has contributed to improving rail infrastructure, enhancing safety standards, and ensuring efficient project execution within the state’s transport ecosystem.

His efforts have helped reduce commuting challenges and improve connectivity for millions of residents who rely on public transportation daily.

The Editorial Board noted that his commitment to technical excellence and innovation continues to drive the evolution of Lagos’ rail system as a viable alternative to road transportation, thereby supporting economic productivity and urban development.

“Engr. Okusaga’s contributions exemplify the ideals of excellence, leadership, innovation, and service, which this award seeks to promote,” the organisers stated.

The award will be formally presented at a grand ceremony scheduled to hold on April 23, 2026, at the LCCI Conference & Exhibition Centre. The event is expected to attract top stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, and civil society.

His recognition underscores the importance of modern rail systems in addressing urban transportation challenges and highlights the role of dedicated professionals in shaping sustainable cities.
