PDP National Congress: Wike declares party united, no more factions ahead of 2027 convention

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured Nigerians that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is heading into its National Convention fully united, with no existing factions threatening party cohesion.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja during an inspection of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, the designated venue for the convention scheduled for tomorrow and next, Wike revealed that a pre-convention consensus has been reached among stakeholders.

In a historic agreement, the South has been allocated the party’s presidential slot, while the North will produce the National Chairman.

“This arrangement reflects fairness, inclusivity, and the spirit of national unity,” Wike said.

“We have zoned all key positions across the country. By this consensus, the process will be smoother and more transparent than in the past.”

According to Wike, the PDP has consciously adopted a new approach to avoid internal disagreements that have historically marred party conventions.

“For the first time, we are presenting a unified front rather than a unity list that often led to divisions,” he emphasized.
While acknowledging that minor grievances exist within the party, a normal feature of any political organization, Wike reassured that these differences will not derail the convention.

“In any group, there will be grievances. Even in a family of two or three, everyone cannot always agree. But we have accommodated different views, and the PDP is ready to surprise Nigerians,” he added.

The FCT Minister also confirmed that preparations for the convention have reached 95 percent completion, with final touches on logistics and venue arrangements underway.

With this show of unity, the PDP aims to set a new standard in party politics ahead of the 2027 general elections, presenting itself as a cohesive force determined to advance democracy, fairness, and inclusivity across Nigeria.
