Gov. Eno’s weekly review: A demonstration of humility in service

Governor Eno has again demonstrated his depth of humility in service—not paying lip service, but backing it with action—as he patronised the State’s own airline, Ibom Air, in an uncommon display of humility.

He not only patronised the airline but also went ahead to present gifts to lucky passengers onboard the flight, in a remarkable demonstration of generosity.

Other activities carried out by the people-centred Governor within the week under review are as follows: Gov. Eno met with the people of his political ward and neighbouring wards to boost the APC e-registration exercise, Tuesday (January 27); Gov. Eno inspected the ongoing 120-metre Ofriyo–Eket Bridge and the 2.5-kilometre dual carriageway connecting Eket and Nsit Ubium LGAs, Tuesday (January 27).

Gov. Eno inspected the ongoing General Hospital project in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium LGA, Gov. Eno inspected the Oron Maritime Terminal, shore protection works, and jetty, Tuesday (January 27), Gov. Eno inspected the ARISE Model Farm at Ikot Edibon, Nsit Ubium LGA, on Wednesday (January 28).

Gov. Eno attended the All Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), Wednesday (January 28), Gov. Eno commended Ibom Air for sustaining impressive standards and quality service, Thursday (January 29), Gov. Eno inspected the Equipment Leasing Company, Aviation Village, and Dakkada Luxury Estate, Thursday (January 29) and Gov. Eno received Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Friday (January 30).

Matter arising
Inspection galore

Gone are the days when chief executive officers of conglomerates sit in rolling chairs under intensive air-conditioning and monitor their projects by proxy.

Leaders who still adopt such a pattern of inspection often have themselves to blame. Governor Umo Eno is an exceptional leader who will not sit in his office and receive fake reports from contractors.

As we know, some contractors will say anything just to collect their money.
Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, having realised these antics by some contractors, commits to visit all construction sites in the State—through scheduled or unscheduled inspections—to ensure quality service delivery, in line with the ARISE Agenda of his administration.

Within the week under review, Governor Eno visited about six project sites, including the ongoing General Hospital project at Ikot Ekpene Udo, which had elicited a series of controversies when the Governor pointed out to the contractor that construction should not have commenced with the mortuary ahead of other facilities earmarked for the General Hospital.

Governor Eno is probably the only Governor in Nigeria who has appointed delivery advisers and assigned them to various project sites across the State.

This has contributed significantly to the success recorded so far, as Akwa Ibom State now boasts of quality project delivery.

On inspection of the Oron Maritime terminal

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring commercial activities in Oron, to redeem its ancient identity as one of the major marine economic hubs of the State.

Governor Eno gave the assurance on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, while fielding questions from Government House correspondents after inspecting the ongoing construction of the Oron Marine Terminal, shore protection works, jetty, warehouse, and recreational facility project in Oron.

He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to develop the marine terminal with modern facilities to enhance the area’s economic potential and restore full commercial activities that would boost the State’s economy.

“Where we are now is the terminal building where passengers will come, buy their tickets, and board boats to Calabar.

“Beyond marine transportation, I want commercial activities to return here so that our fishermen can practise their trade. We have cold-room facilities, dry storage facilities, and fish-drying facilities so that the business can thrive. We must make this place very conducive and lucrative,” he stated.

Assessing the progress of work, Governor Eno commended the contractor, MK Construction Ltd., for the speedy realisation of the vision, noting that his visit was to inspect progress, listen to the contractor, and match the architectural design with the physical reality on the ground to determine the next steps.

He thanked the people of Oron for their cooperation and support, describing the project as a treasured gift to the people and charging them to protect and take ownership of it.

“Thank you for cooperating with the contractor. This project is for our people. It is our gift to the Oron people, and you must protect it because it belongs to you,” he said.

On the APC e-registration exercise and project inspection

Governor Umo Eno urged indigenes and residents of Ibiakpan Obotim Ward II, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, and others across the State to participate actively in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and All Progressive Congress (APC) membership e-registration exercise, noting that it is crucial for validating party membership and ensuring their voices are heard.

Addressing APC members and supporters at his hometown, Ikot Ekpene Udo, the Governor said boosting both registrations was critical to attracting more dividends, programmes, and welfare initiatives to the area.

“More party membership in a ward means more allocation of the party’s welfare to that area. I urge you to step up membership numbers to be relevant in the party’s scheme of things,” he said.

The Governor further directed the people to ensure proper registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“No matter how populated a party is, without PVCs, such numbers become meaningless because votes will not count as expected,” he stressed.

After inspecting the ongoing 120-metre Ofriyo–Eket Bridge, the 2.5-kilometre dual carriageway connecting Eket and Nsit Ubium LGAs, and the General Hospital project in Ikot Ekpene Udo, the Governor enjoined the people to support the administration’s development initiatives for the collective benefit of the State.

“Let us allow sustainable development into our communities. Let us utilise this leadership opportunity to better our lot and not fight ourselves and miss this chance,” he added.

Earlier, the Chairman of Nsit Ubium LGA, Hon. Charles Alfred, commended the Governor for his impactful leadership, while the State APC Chairman, Chief Stephen Ntukekpo, described him as an exemplary leader worthy of emulation.

The President-General of the ARISE with Renewed Hope Initiative, Engr. Uwem Okoko also praised the Governor’s visionary leadership and urged continued public support.

On recommendation of Ibom Air

Governor Umo Eno described Ibom Air as the most excellent airline in Nigeria in terms of service delivery.

Speaking to Government House correspondents upon arrival at the Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA), Thursday, January 29, 2026, the Governor commended the airline’s impressive standards and sustained excellence.

“Boarding Ibom Air is always pleasant. It is the best airline in this country without a shadow of doubt,” he said.

The Governor assured that he would always fly with Ibom Air whenever his schedule permits.

He had boarded the airline from VAIA alongside other passengers, many of whom received gifts from the Governor.

Addressing the passengers, he thanked them for their patronage and assured them of continued quality service in line with international standards, as well as the State Government’s support to make VAIA one of the best airports in the country.
