Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is celebrating a major milestone – 25 years of excellence in traffic management in Lagos State.

Speaking at LASTMA press conference in commemorative of it’s 25th anniversary celebration, Special Adviser to Governor of Lagos State on Transportation, Sola Giwa, noted that since its inception in 2000, LASTMA has evolved into a formidable force in urban transportation, progressively improving commuting time, fostering road safety, and enhancing enforcement protocols.

“The agency has made significant achievements under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, including digital transformation, capacity enhancement, and public awareness.

“LASTMA has leveraged technology to elevate operations, including traffic management solutions, real-time surveillance infrastructure, and automated number plate location systems,” he said.

According to him, the agency has invested in personnel training and development, ensuring effective service delivery and public engagement.

“LASTMA has transitioned from traditional traffic management to incident management, identifying potential issues before they occur and preventing them.

“The agency is set to unveil a comprehensive plan to support Lagos State’s economic and infrastructural ambitions and plans to deploy between 3,000 to 5,000 smart cameras to critical traffic corridors across the city.

“LASTMA will continue to leverage data analytics to inform policy decisions and optimize traffic management.

“They have also maintained strong operational synergy with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transportation, the Nigerian Police, and other agencies.

He further said that the upcoming 22nd Lagos Traffic Conference, scheduled for July 15-17, 2025, will bring together policymakers, transport technocrats, academics, and civil leaders to discuss prevailing mobility challenges and create pragmatic solutions.

Giwa expressed gratitude to the media for their support and collaboration in amplifying the agency’s successes.

He assured that the agency remains committed to its mandate of fostering safer roads, enforcing lawful conduct, and elevating the community’s experience in Lagos traffic management

In his remarks, General Manager, LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said that its agency’s 25th anniversary marks a significant milestone in its journey to improve traffic management in Lagos State.

“The agency has evolved from a traffic management agency to an incident management organization, responsible for ensuring orderliness and high-level compliance with traffic rules and regulations.

He said that LASTMA’s plans include embracing technology and data-driven decision-making to improve traffic management and inform policy decisions.

“The agency is committed to providing vibrant, resourceful, and service-oriented solutions to promote economic growth and safety in Lagos State”, he assured.
