Contract sabotage: Nwifuru takes drastic measures, arrests six state commissioners, council boss

Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has taken drastic measures to address contract sabotage, arresting six state commissioners and a council boss.

The move suggested that Nwifuru is committed to tackling corruption and ensuring that contracts are executed efficiently.

The arrested officials are likely to face investigation and potential prosecution for their alleged roles in sabotaging contracts.

The Numbers governor declared them wanted and ordered their arrest for allegedly and subtly working against his government.

The Chairman of the State Council Committee on Izzo and Amaze Housing Project, Dr Ilang Donatus, disclosed this in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, on Tuesday.

He said the arrest became expedient because the state government felt the contractors had breached the terms and conditions of the contract.

He said, “The Governor is not happy over the pace of the work, which ought to have been completed. The government has decided to clamp down on the Contractors and Commissioners who were mandated to supervise those projects.

“As you can see, our Governor is a man with a passionate heart, he likes giving succour, hence the building of those houses for the victims of the communal crisis.

He is not happy that the project is delayed and has ordered to arrest of all the commissioners who are supposed to ensure the speedy completion of the housing Units.

“The commissioners arrested were Prof. Omari Omaka, Tertiary Education; Victor Chukwu, Environment; Mr. Ifeanyi Ogbuewu, Culture and Tourism; Uchenna Igwe, Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters; Dr. Moses Ekuma, Health; Felix Igboke, Project Monitoring.

Also arrested was the Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Nwachi.
