YALI Network Sokoto hosts alumni connect 1.0, achieves full participation target

YALI Network Sokoto has successfully hosted its maiden Alumni Connect 1.0, bringing together alumni, current members, stakeholders, and development partners in a strategic effort to strengthen engagement and reposition the network for greater impact.

The event, conceived as a platform for reconnection, reflection, and collaboration, marked a significant milestone with the full realization of its participation target.

According to the Network Coordinator, Mr. Maccido Bello, a total of 100 participants were projected for the gathering, a target that was fully achieved, demonstrating renewed commitment among members and the effectiveness of the planning process.

For over eight years, the YALI Network Sokoto has remained a dynamic platform for grooming young leaders, entrepreneurs, and advocates of civic engagement.

The network has contributed significantly to the development of its members, many of whom have gone on to secure meaningful employment, earn prestigious fellowships, participate in governance processes, and deliver measurable impact within and beyond Sokoto State.

Speaking on the rationale behind the initiative, Bello noted that despite the network’s achievements, there has been a growing need to address challenges related to declining participation and engagement.

He explained that Alumni Connect 1.0 was deliberately designed as a strategic intervention to rebuild connections, foster collaboration, and strengthen the institutional capacity of the network.

The event attracted a diverse mix of participants, including YALI members, non-members, stakeholders, and partners, underscoring a shared understanding that sustainable community development thrives on inclusive collaboration.

The Coordinator emphasized that leadership within the network must be anchored on service, integrity, and accountability, stressing that positions of responsibility should be earned through demonstrated commitment, competence, and character.

He further highlighted the vision of building a stronger YALI Network Sokoto, where excellence becomes the standard and future leaders are adequately prepared to serve.

Alumni Connect 1.0 also laid the foundation for what is expected to become an annual tradition, aimed at continuously uniting members, inspiring collective action, and sustaining the relevance of the network.

Stakeholders and development partners were commended for their continued support, with a call for sustained collaboration through mentorship, partnerships, and investment in youth-focused initiatives.

Government and policymakers were also urged to prioritize youth development by improving access to quality education, expanding opportunities, and creating an enabling environment for young people to thrive.

In light of the approaching 2027 general elections, participants were encouraged to remain peaceful, informed, and responsible in exercising their civic duties, with emphasis on electing leaders who are accountable and committed to societal progress.

The Coordinator expressed appreciation to the organizing committee, led by Salahuddeen Bello Bala, Nasir Murtala Magori, Yusuf Muhammad Ladan, and Nur Salihu Usman Shuni, alongside former deputy coordinators, sponsors, and all contributors whose efforts ensured the success of the event.

The programme featured networking sessions, icebreakers, and a panel discussion focused on leadership, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, highlighting the role of young people in shaping and changing societal narratives.

Held on Saturday, at Flamingo Sports Arena, Sokoto, the successful hosting of Alumni Connect 1.0 signals a renewed phase for the YALI Network Sokoto, marking a transition from potential to coordinated action in advancing youth leadership and community development.
