One of the leading faith-based higher institutions in Nigeria, Wesley University Ondo, has secured National Universities Commission (NUC) approval to commence 10 new academic programmes.
According to the NUC’s letter of approval with reference number NUCiAP/P3 I/VOt, II/2 O and dated 27th January 2025, which was signed by The Ag. Director Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, for Executive Secretary of the commission, “the programmes will run full-time, effective from the 2024/2025 academic session”.
The list of the newly approved programmes includes B.Sc. Entrepreneurship; B.Sc. Office Management Technology; B.Sc. Surveying ; O.D. Optometry; PGD., M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D. Urban and Regional Planning; PGD., M.Sc., M.Phii and Ph.D. Estate Management; PGD, M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D. Economics; B.Sc. Public Health and B.Rad. Radiography as well as PGD., M.Sc., and Ph.D. Community Health.
The programmes are to commence effectively from the 2024/2025 Academic Session.
It is noteworthy that the programmes approved equal 100% of the programmes submitted by the University for resource verification by the regulatory body, the National Universities Commission (NUC), a feat unprecedented in the University’s history.
The approval followed a resource verification exercise carried out in December 2024 by panels of experts from the NUC on the 10 new programmes domiciled in the College of Social and Management Sciences, College of Environmental Design and Management, and College of Medical Science.
The approval marks the fulfillment of one of the strategic goals of the current administration of the University under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Prof. Sunday Samuel Obeka, to take the citadel of learning to a high level and its rightful place in the education system.
Given this cheery development, the Prof Obeka-led administration is, no doubt, on a high speed toward the attainment of its five-point agenda, foremost among which is “To ensure that academic and professional programs are and remain accredited by the relevant bodies.”
Reacting to the good news, the VC expressed his deep appreciation to the Chancellor of the university, Sr. Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche, for providing the leadership and support to actualize the goal while congratulating the entire university community on the achievement.
