Wesley University, Canadian Education Council sign MoU for international career centre

In a significant step towards enhancing career prospects for its students, Wesley University in Ondo State has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Canadian Education Council (CEC) to establish an International Career Centre.

The collaboration aimed to provide students and young professionals with access to global career opportunities, professional development courses, and international internship placements.

The International Career Centre will serve as a hub of professional development, skills training, and global job placement services tailored for students, fresh graduates, and young professionals.

Through the partnership, Wesley University students will have the opportunity to access career-enhancing services, including the prestigious Canadian Employment Licence Test (CELT) — a globally recognized certification that positions candidates as top-tier talents for both local and international employers.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Country Director of the Canadian Education Council, Dr. Adeniyi John, said: “This partnership is a significant step toward solving the unemployment crisis in Nigeria. By giving Wesley University students access to international employment certifications, mentoring, and a job portal housing over 12 million global employers, we are creating a direct pathway from the classroom to the boardroom. Our mission is to make Nigerian graduates not just employable, but globally competitive and job-ready.”

Through the International Career Centre, students and alumni of Wesley University will also receive training and mentorship on career development, resume building, professional networking, and interview preparation — all designed to align them with the needs of modern employers across industries and continents.

In his remarks, Vice Chancellor of Wesley University, Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel Sunday Obeka, described the partnership as a game-changer: “This MoU with the Canadian Education Council is a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation. Our students now have the chance to become certified professionals, equipped not just with academic degrees, but with globally relevant skills and credentials. This is a bold step toward making Wesley University graduates the preferred choice for employers worldwide.”

He further explained: “The Career Centre will officially open its doors in the coming months and will be open to all students, fresh graduates, and young professionals in the university community. The initiative also aims to significantly reduce graduate unemployment by connecting talents with real opportunities through the CEC Global Job Portal, featuring employers from North America, Europe, Asia, and beyond”.

This partnership further reinforces CEC’s goal of building a globally connected and career-driven generation of African youth.
