Umo Eno returns to Oro Nation to fulfill campaign promises

During his campaign, Governor Umo Eno made a compelling promise to the Oro Nation at the Oron Township Stadium, vowing to restore the former glory of Oron, a community once renowned for its vibrant tourism, robust inter-country trading, and rich seafood markets.

The governor resolutely pledged to reinstate the ferry services that had long been dormant, which had once served as a favored mode of transportation in the 1970s and 1980s, should he be elected to office.

Furthermore, he committed to transforming Oron Beach into a thriving tourist destination, so his visit to the area today is a tangible manifestation of that campaign promise, aimed at revitalizing the community’s economic prospects and enhancing its appeal to visitors.

His ambition extends beyond merely revitalizing the local economy; he envisions transforming Oron into a thriving entertainment hub that not only attracts tourists but also develops inter-country trade.

Unfortunately, the potential of Oron has been stifled by a myriad of challenges. Poor access roads have hindered transportation and connectivity, while the threat of sea piracy has created an atmosphere of insecurity that deters visitors and investors alike.

Furthermore, the lack of essential infrastructure, such as proper storage facilities for seafood and adequate water transportation options like jetties, has severely limited the community’s ability to capitalize on its natural resources.

The coastlines are also facing ecological problems that threaten the existing fragile infrastructure and have consumed some houses that served as warehouses for fishermen and traders.

In addition to these infrastructural deficits, the absence of a robust security framework has exacerbated the situation, making it difficult to attract both tourists and business opportunities.

Governor Umo Eno’s vision, therefore, encompasses not only the restoration of Oron’s historical status but also the implementation of comprehensive strategies to enhance security and infrastructure along the coastal areas.

He also wishes to develop a sandy beach that will provide a comfortable recreational center for numerous tourists, thereby creating a welcoming hub for traditional carnivals, festivals, and musical concerts.

As the Governor returns to Oron Beach, he will commence the following development: flag off the construction of a modern terminal building, initiate the development of state-of-the-art storage facilities powered by solar energy, flag the construction of new cargo and ferry jetties and implement shoreline and embankment protection measures.

Facilitate the establishment of a modern motor park to serve jetty users, launch the establishment of a Marine Joint Taskforce outpost, develop a dedicated car and lorry park for marine users, construct of fuel dump, construct a workshop for boat repairs, undertake external works of fencing and a gatehouse and construct an access road to the motor park, beach, and jetties.

By doing these, he aims to create an environment conducive to tourism and trade, ultimately establishing Oron as a premier destination for visitors and a vital hub for commerce in the State and Nigeria at large

The enhancement of coastal lines within any nation or State significantly contributes to an increase in tourist influx and stimulates trading activities.

Tourists from neighboring states or countries do not solely focus on leisure activities; they also engage in purchasing artworks, clothing, food, etc, and exploring potential investment opportunities.

Eno has steadfastly adhered to many of his commitments to the Oro nation. Approximately one year ago, he initiated two major road projects that he had pledged during his campaign.

These road initiatives encompass the dualization of the 13.5-kilometer Okopedi-Oron road, which connects to the East-West road phase 2, as well as the dualization of the 13.6-kilometer Unyenge-Universal Energy Road leading to the Ibom Deep Seaport.

This project includes the construction of two bridges, measuring 30 meters and 45 meters in length, respectively, and a spur road extending to Affi-Uda Village in the Mbo Local Government Area of the State.

Moreover, the Governor has made significant progress on his promise to complete the Airport-Nsit Attai-Okopedi Road, which, based on my assessment, is currently about 90 percent complete.

Also today, Governor Umo Eno will be commissioning a new health center in Oron, aimed at enhancing healthcare access and quality for the local community.

This facility will feature modern health families, including maternal and child health services, immunization programmes, family planning, and chronic disease management.

The center is designed to provide comprehensive healthcare solutions, ensuring that residents receive the necessary support for their health and well-being.

The commissioning event showcases his government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services in the Oro Nation.

What further expressions might the Oro people convey, if not an overwhelming sense of gratitude towards a governor who has not only remained steadfast in fulfilling his campaign commitments to them but has also expanded his vision for the development of the Oron Federal Constituency and its constituents?

The unwavering dedication of the governor to both his promises and the broader aspirations for the people of Oro Nation reflects a profound commitment to public service, enhancing an environment where the hopes and needs of the people are prioritized and actively addressed.
