Strength renewed at Mercy Seat

Bible Text: Isaiah 41:1 – Let the people renew their strength.

All created things live by renewal. The earth awaits the rains, the flowers depend upon the dew, and the mighty cedars of Lebanon stand only because fresh sap rises within them day by day. Nothing sustains itself.

The same is true of the believer. Grace received yesterday is not enough for today’s battles, nor will today’s strength suffice for tomorrow’s trials. We must continually return to God, the Fountain of life, if our souls are to flourish and endure.

How often spiritual weakness is traceable not to the greatness of our trials but to the neglect of our resources. The Scriptures remain unopened, the closet of prayer untrodden, and communion with Christ becomes infrequent.

Then faith grows dim, love waxes cold, and hope loses its song. The soul, deprived of heavenly nourishment, becomes like a tree in drought—alive perhaps, but lacking vigour and fruitfulness. True grace is not self-sustaining; it leans continually upon God.

The child of God cannot thrive apart from the Father any more than a branch can flourish severed from the vine.

The need for renewal is urgent because our warfare is unceasing. Temptations assail us, afflictions test us, and inward corruptions struggle for mastery. When the storms of life arise, only the soul that has drawn deeply from divine strength will remain steadfast. Woe to the believer who enters battle with yesterday’s supplies! But blessed is he who waits upon the Lord, for God never sends His people into conflict without furnishing them with fresh grace for the hour.

Let us therefore come often to the mercy seat. Let us feed richly upon the Word, delight in secret prayer, and cultivate constant fellowship with Christ. There is no exhaustion in the resources of heaven.

The reservoir of divine grace is inexhaustible, and the promise remains sure: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” They shall rise above discouragement, endure in adversity, and press onward with holy confidence until faith gives way to sight and weakness is swallowed up in everlasting strength.
