Southwest CAGrAM endorses Yilwatda, Basiru, backs continuity in APC leadership

Southwest Chapter of the Consolidated APC Grassroots Movement (CAGrAM) has thrown its weight behind the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), endorsing the continued stewardship of National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, by the Office of the National Southwest Chairman, Com. Okedara Kolawole, the group declared its “total and unwavering solidarity” with the current National Working Committee (NWC), emphasizing that continuity in leadership remains critical to sustaining progress within the ruling party.

The group noted that as Nigeria continues its journey of nation-building under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the role of a stable, innovative, and intellectually driven party structure cannot be overstated.

Describing the current leadership as a “pillar of stability and innovation,” the Southwest CAGrAM commended Prof. Yilwatda for transforming the APC into a modern, data-driven political institution.

It specifically highlighted the successful membership e-registration exercise, which it said has deepened internal democracy and strengthened grassroots participation across the country.

According to the statement, the digitalization of party membership has enhanced transparency and inclusiveness, giving members from ward to national levels a greater sense of belonging and ownership.

The group also praised the maturity and administrative competence displayed by the current NWC in managing internal party affairs, noting that their ability to handle sensitive issues with fairness and decorum has helped maintain unity within the party.

“The current executives have demonstrated that continuous service is the key to achieving long-term developmental goals,” the statement read. “Their steady leadership has kept the party focused on supporting the Renewed Hope agenda, rather than being distracted by internal conflicts.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the Southwest CAGrAM cautioned against any leadership changes that could disrupt the party’s momentum.

It argued that replacing the current leadership would amount to “changing a winning team,” which could slow down progress and create unnecessary setbacks.

“A newcomer would require time to understand the system, whereas the present leadership is already delivering developmental opportunities to the people,” the group stated.

Consequently, the movement passed a formal vote of confidence in Prof. Yilwatda, Dr. Basiru, and the entire National Executive Committee, calling for their continuation in office to consolidate ongoing reforms and achievements.

The group further urged party members and stakeholders to remain loyal, disciplined, and united, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party and give room for opposition forces to gain advantage.

“To fight ourselves is to give ground to the opposition; to stand together is to guarantee victory,” the statement emphasized.

Reaffirming its commitment to the ideals of the APC, the Southwest CAGrAM concluded that continuity in leadership remains essential to achieving lasting prosperity and political stability.

“Continuity is the key. Prosperity is the goal,” the group declared.
