RULAAC demands justice, calls for impartial probe, immediate release of ‘Mama P’

Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre Rulaac (RULAAC) has deeply concerned by reports that Ms. Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, a social media activist and supporter of Mr. Peter Obi, was physically assaulted by suspected thugs allegedly linked to Mr. Julius Abure, former National Chairman of the Labour Party, and is now being detained by the Edo State Police Command.

According to the Executive Director, RULAAC, Com. Okechukwu Nwanguma, they strongly condemned any form of violence or intimidation as a tool of political contestation.

“More troubling, however, is the action of the police in detaining the victim of a violent attack rather than protecting her rights and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable. This is unprofessional, unjust, and undermines public confidence in the police.

“We remind the Nigeria Police Force that its constitutional duty is to protect all citizens without fear or favour, regardless of political affiliation or status. Neutrality, fairness, and professionalism are essential to restoring public trust in law enforcement and ensuring that the police do not become tools in political rivalries,” he lamented.

RULAAC therefore calls on the Inspector-General of Police and the Edo State Commissioner of Police to immediately release Mama P from custody, as there is no evidence that she committed any offence known to the law.

“Conduct an impartial and thorough investigation into the reported attack on Mama P, ensuring that all those responsible—whether political actors or hired thugs—are identified and prosecuted. Ensure professionalism and neutrality in handling this case and refrain from actions that could suggest bias or complicity in shielding powerful individuals from accountability.

“Violence and intimidation must not be allowed to take root in Nigeria’s political culture. The police must demonstrate their loyalty to the Constitution, the rule of law, and the rights of citizens—not to individuals or partisan interests,” he stated.
