Osiele -Camp Road: A neglected lifeline crying for urgent government attention

For the past three weeks, I have been plying the Osiele–Camp Road in Abeokuta, and what should ordinarily be a smooth journey of less than an hour has turned into a distressing adventure of more than two and a half hours each time I travel from Ibadan to Abeokuta.

The deplorable state of this once-busy route leaves much to be desired. It is deeply worrisome that such a vital road, which hosts several educational institutions, communities, government agencies, hospitals, and even the Ogun State Police Headquarters, has been abandoned for so long without meaningful intervention from either the Federal or Ogun State government.

Every day, students, staff, residents, and travellers risk their lives navigating this death trap of a road. Vehicles break down frequently, accidents occur regularly, and the stress and delay it causes are unbearable.

I therefore appeal passionately to the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and to the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Osiele–Camp Road. Doing so will not only ease the movement of people and goods but also safeguard countless lives that depend on this essential route.

This road is more than just a passage, it is a lifeline for education, health, and security operations within Abeokuta and its environs. Let urgent attention be given to make it safe and motorable for all.
