Ogun State market tragedy: NUMTEN demands justice, compensation for murdered trader

National Union of Market Traders Employers of Nigeria (NUMTEN) has expressed deep condolences to the family of Mrs. Blessing Eze, a market trader who was brutally murdered by hoodlums extorting illegal levies at Ifo Market in Ogun State.

In a statement signed by National President, of the union, Com. James Chukwuma, stated that the family of the deceased should be adequately compensated by the Ogun State Government and the concerned Local Government Authority.

A high-powered government delegation should be constituted to pay a condolence visit to the bereaved family.

The union has directed the immediate deployment of its members to markets across Ogun State to monitor levies and taxes being collected and generate timely reports to the government and security agencies.

The Ogun State Government is urged to establish a Tripartite Committee comprising representatives of the Local Government, NUMTEN, and Market Executives to periodically review collections in the market and recommend necessary policy actions.

NUMTEN has called on the Ogun State Government to take immediate action to address the issue of illegal levy collection in markets and ensure the safety of traders.

The union remains committed to partnering with the government to promote peace, orderliness, and economic stability in markets across the state.
