NSC Seme Command boss warns public against fake officers, amid N847m revenue milestone

Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has generated N847,058,879.30 in revenue for April while cautioning the public about fraudsters posing as customs officers.

The command’s boss warned against individuals claiming to offer customs auctions or services via social media platforms, advising the public to verify authenticity before engaging with such individuals.

Speaking at a press conference, Customs Area Comptroller, Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller Dr. Ben Oramalugo, warned smugglers to desist from such activities or face prosecution.

He explained that the command collected a total sum of N847, 058,879.30 in April.

“The amount collected reflects the command’s sustained efforts at ensuring that all revenue leakages are blocked.

He ascribed the achievement of the rising revenue to the sustained efforts at ensuring that all revenue leakages are blocked, and every legitimate kobo due to the Federal Government is collected without compromise.

The command recorded very impressive revenue collection in April 2025 compared to the previous year, the anti-smuggling supremo also achieved a superlative and unbeatable record in his anti-smuggling drive with total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of all seizures during the same month being N669,785,236.00k only.

Giving a breakdown of the seizures, the comptroller announced that on 28th March 2025, at about 2000hrs, operatives of the command on stop and search duty intercepted a motorcyclist suspected of conveying un-customs goods along Owode Road and that upon interception, the rider abandoned a Ghana-Must-Go bag and escaped, the bag was found to contain various foreign coins, namely; 49 pieces of Two-Dollar coins, 1,048 pieces of One-Pound coins, 130 pieces of 25 Canadian cents, 236 pieces of Fifty Pence, 645 pieces of Twenty Pence, 420 pieces of Ten Pence, 370 pieces of five pence.

Receiving the seized cannabis Sativa, the Director of Area Command, Mr. Austimes Ojojo praised the Command for the seizures and assured the cooperation of his organization in the fight against illicit drugs.

The NDLEA director noted that drugs such as cannabis sativa and other harmful drugs pose great danger to society, and advised the youths to stay away from drugs.

He promised that the NDLEA would publicly destroy the seized drugs at a later date.

Dr. Oramalugo noted; “The Nigeria Customs Service does not sell or auction seized items via WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages, or any unverified platforms,” he said.
