NIS, EFCC strengthen partnership against economic, financial crimes

Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Zone A, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its sustained efforts in combating corruption and economic and financial crimes in Nigeria.

The Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Mohammed Adamu, gave the commendation on Thursday, September 10, 2026, when the Acting Director of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Adebayo Adeniyi, led a delegation of the Commission on a courtesy visit to the NIS Zonal Headquarters in Lagos.

Adamu described the EFCC as one of Nigeria’s prestigious and hardworking agencies, saying its efforts in combating corruption and financial crimes had contributed to improving the country’s image locally and internationally.

He also commended the Commission for securing convictions in financial crime cases, noting that such convictions could serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.

“I am highly delighted to receive you and your entourage from the EFCC, one of the most prestigious and hardworking agencies in Nigeria. Thank you for a job well done. The EFCC has recorded significant achievements and secured convictions. These convictions serve as a deterrent to potential offenders, and Nigerians are proud of your work,” he said.

The NIS Zonal Coordinator pledged the Service’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the EFCC, particularly through intelligence sharing and other forms of inter-agency collaboration in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

Adamu further said he would communicate the visit and the existing relationship between both agencies to the NIS headquarters.

“I will communicate this visit to the Headquarters so that they are aware of the strong working relationship we have with the EFCC,” he said.

NIS seeks training for officers

Adamu also requested opportunities for capacity-building and training for NIS personnel, stressing that such initiatives would enhance the effectiveness and professionalism of officers in the discharge of their duties.

He noted that stronger institutional cooperation and continuous training would help both agencies respond more effectively to emerging challenges associated with economic and financial crimes.

EFCC seeks sustained synergy

In his remarks, Adeniyi expressed appreciation to the NIS for the cooperation and synergy that both agencies had enjoyed over the years.

He called for the continuation and strengthening of the existing partnership, particularly in areas that would support the EFCC’s mandate to investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes.

“We appreciate your office for the cooperation we have enjoyed over the years. We are here to express our gratitude and to sustain the existing relationship,” Adeniyi said.

The Acting Director also assured the NIS that the EFCC remained committed to conducting its operations in accordance with due process.

“If there are any issues regarding our operations, please let us know. The Commission is committed to ensuring that everything is handled in line with due process. We look forward to continued cooperation,” he added.

The visit provided an opportunity for both agencies to reaffirm their commitment to inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing and capacity building in support of efforts to combat economic and financial crimes.
