Nigerian-born broadcast journalist Richard Edoki, popularly known as Richybongo, has made history as the first African presenter to be shortlisted for the Best Newcomer award at the prestigious National Hospital Radio Awards 2025.

Richybongo’s show, African Vibe with Richybongo on CHBN Radio, has been making waves in Cornwall, England, by celebrating African culture and promoting inclusivity with local audiences.

Through music, food, and traditions, Richybongo creates a vibrant platform that bridges cultures and builds a shared sense of community.

“I’m thrilled to be recognized for my work,” Richybongo said. “African Vibe is more than just a show – it’s a cultural exchange that brings people together. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to share African traditions with Cornish audiences and create a sense of belonging for Africans in Cornwall.”

The National Hospital Radio Awards ceremony will take place on April 5, 2025, during the Hospital Broadcasting Association’s Annual Conference in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
