New leadership: Uchenna Inya takes helm as Ebonyi Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman

Correspondent of The Sun Newspaper in Ebonyi State, Comrade Uchenna Inya, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi Council.

Inya won his opponent, Moses Nwite of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), with 27 votes, who scored 5 votes.

The chapel also elected Christian Ogbonna of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as its Secretary.

The election held at the Chapel office located at Spera-in-Deo Plaza, Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State by a three-man certified screening committee which was chaired by Comrade Amechi Odo of Radio Nigeria, Abakaliki.

32 Members out of 34 members of the chapel took part in the election, which was supervised by the state Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Comrade Odo, while announcing the result, applauded the members of the chapel for conducting themselves in an organized manner during the election.

He called for continued unity in the chapel and also applauded the members of the chapel for coming out in their numbers to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Comrade Samson Nwafor, the State Chairman of NUJ lauded the peaceful conduct of the election.

He encouraged the emerged winners of the chapel, most especially the new Chairman, to see the victory as a wake-up call to serve more.

He advised the Chairman Inya to improve in the areas that he didn’t perform well as Acting Chairman.

Comrade Nwafor who was Chairman of the chapel, encouraged Nwite to support Inya to succeed and also to see the election as the choice of the members of the chapel.

During his acceptance speech, the New Chairman, Inya, thanked the members of the chapel for the trust and confidence reposed in him with their votes and encouraged the members for more support.

He hailed media stakeholders in the state, including the state Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Francis Nwifuru, Dr. Monday Uzor, and the Director -General of the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), Comrade Tony Nwizi for allowing internal democracy to reign in the election.
