MWUN rewards punctuality, style, talent at grand Year -End celebration

Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the dynamic leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, threw a grand end-of-year celebration on Friday, December 19, 2025, marking an unprecedented festivity in the history of the union.

The event brought together staff, executives, and workers in a night of joy, recognition, and camaraderie, setting a new standard for union celebrations.

According to the Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, while the party was primarily a festive closure of the year’s activities, it also served as a platform to reward dedication, style, and talent within the union.

Comrades who demonstrated punctuality and outstanding service were recognized with cash awards of #100,000 each.

Among the honorees were Comrade John Ekpo (DSG, Administration/Personnel), Comrade John Kessy (Chief Driver of the Union), and Comrade Rotimi (AGS, Dockworkers Branch).

Style and presentation were also celebrated, with the “Best Dressed” category honoring Comrade Kenneth Ibanga (DSG, Protocol and ITF Representative), Comrade Mathew Adele (General Secretary, Dockworkers Branch), Comrade Akala Mistura (Union Accountant, female best dressed), Comrade Funke Apesin (ASG, Administration), and Comrade Serifat Ogbede (PA to the PG). Each received a cash prize of #100,000 for their impeccable appearance.

Talent took center stage in the dance competitions, with Comrade Martina Njoku (VPG) emerging as the best female dancer, earning a cash prize of #50,000, while other participants received consolatory prizes.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a special award to the President-General of the Union, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, by the organizers of the “Face of Maritime” event, accompanied by the crowning of the “2025 Queen,” symbolizing a historic moment for MWUN.

Guests were treated to a rich variety of sumptuous meals from all regions of Nigeria, including the Niger-Delta, South West, South East, and Northern parts of the country, reflecting the union’s commitment to unity and inclusivity. A wide selection of drinks ensured that everyone’s taste was catered for, contributing to the festive and joyous atmosphere.

Before the conclusion of the party, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all attendees for their good conduct, love, and unity.

He commended the organizers of the “Face of Maritime” for maintaining the tradition and assured members that next year’s edition will surpass even this year’s celebration, emphasizing that dedication, hard work, punctuality, and loyalty will remain the hallmarks of MWUN’s success.

He also thanked journalists for covering the event and spreading the union’s message of excellence.
