An Islamic human rights organization, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has appealed to the Federal and State governments to give all train stations in the country better access roads.

According to the Founder/Executive Director, MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, they commended the Federal Government for providing the trains and their ultramodern stations, but described the access roads that lead to the stations as ‘fish out of the water, spoilers and kill-joys’.

He said: “Our attention has been called to the very poor condition of the access roads to Nigerian train stations. While the Federal Government  deserves encomiums for providing such vital infrastructure like trains all over the country, we observe that the access roads to the train stations were not considered in the original plan.

“This left the access roads in poor and rough conditions thereby making them looking like fish out of water, spoilers and kill-joys. They just do not fit into the aesthetics of the beautiful architectural structure of the train stations. Besides, the bad access roads expose travelers to the dangers of robbery and kidnapping.

“Those access roads need the urgent attention of the authorities including the Federal Government, the relevant state governments as well as the Federal Ministry of Transport.

“Rehabilitating and upgrading the access roads to train stations will attract more passengers for the trains and reduce the stress on our roads. It will also ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians encountered during interstate journeys,” he stated.
