Methodist Diocese of AAA Lay President, Humphrey Osita, joins ISMDS Governing Council

Lay President, Methodist Church Diocese of Akegbe Awgu Aninri (AAA), Sir Engr. Humphrey Osita has accepted his nomination to serve as a Member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Sports Management & Development Studies (ISMDS).

Osita formally communicated his acceptance of the nomination, expressing appreciation to the Board of Trustees, Management and members of the Institute for the confidence reposed in him.

His appointment brings to the Governing Council a combination of professional, organisational and church leadership experience, as the Institute continues its efforts to promote professional sports management and development.

As Lay President of the Methodist Diocese of Akegbe Awgu Aninri, Osita has distinguished himself through leadership and service within the Methodist Church, while his professional background as an engineer further adds to the breadth of experience represented on the ISMDS Governing Council.

In accepting the nomination, Osita expressed his readiness to work with the leadership and other members of the Governing Council towards the advancement of the Institute’s objectives and its contribution to the development of professional sports management.

The Institute of Sports Management & Development Studies is focused on professional development, capacity building, research, education and the promotion of best practices in sports management and related fields.

The Institute is the first of its kind in Africa and the third globally, alongside the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), United Kingdom, and the International Institute of Sports Management (IISM), Mumbai, India.

With this positioning, ISMDS aims to contribute to the growth of sports management as a professional discipline in Nigeria and Africa through education, capacity development, research, advocacy and professional networking.

The Institute is also preparing for its National Conference and Induction Ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2026, at the LCCI Conference and Exhibition Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

The acceptance of his nomination by Sir Engr. Humphrey Osita further strengthens the Governing Council as ISMDS continues to build a multidisciplinary team of professionals and leaders committed to advancing sports management and development.

His inclusion is expected to add valuable leadership and professional perspectives to the Council as the Institute moves towards the next phase of its institutional development.
