Kebbi Police nab three over kidnapping, seize firearms, machetes

Kebbi State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and recovered locally made firearms and dangerous weapons in a breakthrough against criminal activities in the state.

The suspects, identified as Abubakar Muhammadu, Abdullahi Majo and Ali Alhaji Jemu, were arrested at Bagudo Market following actionable intelligence received by operatives of the Command.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the arrest was carried out in line with the intelligence-led policing strategy of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

“Acting on credible information about a suspicious individual at Bagudo Market, detectives swiftly moved to the area and successfully arrested three suspects. During a search, two locally made firearms, one cartridge and three machetes were recovered from them,” the police spokesperson said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were linked to a previous kidnapping incident in Bani Koso Village, Shanga Local Government Area of the state, where a 55-year-old man was abducted from his residence.

The police noted that the arrest marked a significant step in dismantling kidnapping networks operating within the state and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating violent crimes and ensuring the safety of residents.

On the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Umar Mohammed Hadejia, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, for detailed investigation.

SP Usman disclosed that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

He further urged members of the public to continue supporting the police by reporting suspicious movements and providing timely information that could help prevent crimes.
