FRSC hails Dangote Cement for setting road safety standards in Africa

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has applauded Dangote Cement Plc for emerging as a model in transport management and road safety practices across Africa following a remarkable decline in road crashes, fatalities, and injuries involving the company’s trucks through the implementation of innovative safety policies and technology-driven reforms.

The Corps noted that the reforms have resulted in a substantial reduction in articulated truck crashes on Nigerian roads, describing Dangote Cement as a benchmark for transport management and road safety practices not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

Speaking during a visit by officials of Dangote Cement Plc to the FRSC Headquarters, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praised the company for setting new standards in transport safety management and urged the sustained implementation of initiatives capable of reshaping Nigeria’s transport landscape.

According to comparative data released by the FRSC, road crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks declined by 56 per cent between 2025 and 2026. The figures also indicated a 36 per cent reduction in fatalities and a 52 per cent decrease in injuries linked to the company’s transport operations during the same period.

The Corps Marshal attributed the remarkable improvement to the effective implementation of Dangote Cement’s Gap Analysis and the company’s internal transport safety policies, which he described as worthy of emulation by logistics operators across the African continent.

He stated that Dangote Cement’s achievements demonstrate the far-reaching impact of prioritising safety within corporate transport operations.

According to him, when major industry players get safety management right, the benefits extend beyond the company to the nation and the continent as a whole.
Earlier, the Head of Transport at Dangote Cement Plc, Murilo Silva, highlighted the company’s sustained investments in advanced transport management systems, including automated inspection technologies and artificial intelligence-driven solutions aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing road safety.

Silva explained that the company’s long-standing collaboration with the FRSC in the development and implementation of transport safety policies is now yielding measurable results.

He added that beyond its dedicated transport safety policy, Dangote Cement continues to prioritise driver recertification programmes and continuous retraining as part of efforts to sustain high safety standards across its fleet operations.

Also speaking, the Group Chief, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) and Sustainability Officer for Dangote Industries Limited, Dr. James Adenuga, said the achievements recorded were driven by strong leadership commitment and unwavering management support for innovation and continuous improvement.

Dr. Adenuga reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustained reforms, enhanced safety standards and innovation-led initiatives designed to improve efficiency, strengthen compliance with global best practices and deliver long-term value to stakeholders and host communities.

On his part, the Lead Fleet Safety Officer, Nigeria, at Dangote Cement Plc, Ozovehe Abraham, disclosed that the company has deployed advanced technologies to monitor and assess driver behaviour in real time.

According to him, the systems help improve compliance with safety standards, identify risky driving patterns at an early stage and support continuous improvement in driver performance.

Abraham further revealed that Dangote Cement is currently recalibrating and strengthening its speed limit policy as part of broader operational safety measures aimed at reducing road crashes further and promoting discipline and safer haulage operations nationwide.
