Flooding in Nigeria: IOM intensifies emergency response with $668,000 grant

International Organization for Migration (IOM) has allocated an additional $668,000 to support emergency humanitarian relief for flood-affected communities in Nigeria.

The funding, provided through the Rapid Response Fund (RRF), brings the total amount allocated by IOM to local partners to over $2.4 million in 2024.

The funds will support localized humanitarian operations by IOM’s partners, including Relief Rescue Initiative (RRI), Safer World Foundation, and Community Engagement and Social Development Initiative (CESDI), in Jigawa, Katsina, and Bauchi States.

These areas have been severely impacted by catastrophic floods, affecting tens of thousands of people.

According to Paola Pace, IOM Nigeria’s Chief of Mission ad interim, “USAID’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance has been vital in enabling IOM and local partners to provide life-saving assistance and help communities rebuild and recover from the floods”.

IOM’s efforts are in close coordination with governmental agencies, local authorities, and other humanitarian partners to ensure a comprehensive and effective response.

The organization remains committed to working collaboratively to deliver timely and impactful assistance to those in need.
