FENRAD commends Amnesty International’s report on Southeast insecurity, backs global campaign against impunity

Foundation For Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) Nigeria has commended Amnesty International Nigeria for its timely and comprehensive report, “A decade of impunity: Attacks and unlawful killings in Southeast Nigeria,” which documents a disturbing trend of violence and human rights violations in the Southeast region over the past ten years.

FENRAD, represented by its Executive Director, Comrade Nnanna Nwafor, is proud to be among the key stakeholders engaging in the official presentation of this landmark report and the launch of a global campaign against impunity, scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Enugu, Enugu State.

Speaking ahead of the event, Nwafor lamented the worsening state of insecurity in the region, noting that the frequency of unlawful killings, violent attacks, and the seeming lack of accountability have had devastating impacts on both the people and the socio-economic stability of the Southeast.

We cannot continue to normalise bloodshed and lawlessness. “What we are witnessing is a systemic erosion of justice and human dignity.

FENRAD is fully aligned with Amnesty International’s call for transparency, accountability, and urgent reform to safeguard the lives and rights of citizens in the region.”

FENRAD reiterates that human rights must be protected without compromise, and that impunity, in any form, poses a serious threat to democracy, peace, and development.

The Foundation joins Amnesty International and other civil society actors in calling on the Nigerian government, security agencies, and all relevant institutions to act decisively and responsibly in addressing the root causes of violence in the Southeast.

It is time to prioritise justice, not just in rhetoric, but through concrete action.

FENRAD encourages the public, media, and development partners to attend the report presentation and lend their voices to the campaign for justice and accountability.
