Experts validate $6.8bn projects for Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Development

Technical experts, engineers, sector specialists, and representatives from ECOWAS member states concluded a three-day Validation Workshop for the Spatial Development Initiative (SDI) of the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway Development Project in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on November 13, 2024.

The workshop validated the final draft reports of the SDI study, signaling a strong commitment to unlocking the economic potential of the corridor.

The initiative, supported by development partners, aimed to drive economic growth, foster regional integration, and enhance private sector investments in the sub-region.

Key achievements include the identification of 206 infrastructure projects, with 27 investment-ready initiatives valued at $6.8 billion.

These projects, categorized as economic anchor projects, strategic infrastructure, and economic densification initiatives, were selected using stringent criteria, including alignment with national policies and readiness for implementation.

Highlighted anchor projects include Nigeria’s Remo Economic Industrial Cluster, Benin’s Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone, and Côte d’Ivoire’s PK 24 Industrial Hub.

Recommendations also covered sectors like oil and gas, agriculture, and tourism, emphasizing their importance for sustainable development.

The consortium of CPCS, Holland, Hausberge, and Comete led the study, identifying projects with strong potential to attract private-sector investments.

The validated SDI report marks a critical milestone in achieving regional integration and economic transformation along the Abidjan-Lagos corridor.

The commitment of ECOWAS member states and development partners underscores the project’s role in driving prosperity across West Africa.
