Enaibo graduates from Al Jazeera Media Institute, thanks  President Tinubu, Otuaro, PAP

Niger Delta journalist and cultural storyteller, Asiayei Enaibo, has graduated from the Al Jazeera Media Institute in Doha, Qatar, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in his professional journey and an opportunity that has further strengthened his commitment to journalism and storytelling.

Enaibo, popularly known as the “Talking Drum of the Niger Delta,” expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for the opportunity, while appreciating all those who contributed to making his participation in the international media training possible.

In a statement following his graduation, Enaibo described the experience as a journey of learning, professional growth and renewed purpose, noting that the knowledge and exposure gained from the programme would further enhance his work as a journalist and storyteller.

“Finally, I graduated from the Al Jazeera Media Institute here in Qatar today. A big congratulations to myself on this important milestone. This journey has been one of learning, growth, and renewed purpose in my career as a journalist,” he said.

Enaibo reserved special appreciation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro, for providing the opportunity and support that enabled him and other Niger Delta media professionals to participate in the international training programme.

He particularly thanked Dr. Otuaro for what he described as an investment in the professional development of media practitioners from the Niger Delta, stressing that the benefits of the training extend beyond the individual participants to the wider region.

According to him, exposure to international standards and contemporary approaches to journalism would enable participating journalists to improve their professional practice and contribute more effectively to documenting the history, culture, challenges and development of the Niger Delta.

Enaibo had, earlier in September, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Dr. Otuaro for sponsoring Niger Delta journalists for the training, describing the opportunity as one that provided professional growth, knowledge acquisition and exposure to global standards in journalism and media practice.

His latest graduation comes against the backdrop of PAP’s reported emphasis on human-capital development, specialised training and opportunities for professional growth under Otuaro. Recent reports have also highlighted the programme’s stakeholder engagement and leadership, alternative dispute resolution and mediation initiatives in the Niger Delta.

President Tinubu appointed Otuaro as PAP Administrator in March 2024, with the Presidency stating that he was expected to bring his experience to the task of repositioning the programme and advancing its founding objectives.

For Enaibo, the completion of the Al Jazeera Media Institute programme represents not an end, but another step forward in a continuing professional journey.

“This is not just a graduation; it is another step forward in my journey as a journalist and storyteller,” he stated.

He also acknowledged the importance of the opportunity to the Niger Delta media community, noting that better-trained journalists are better positioned to tell the region’s stories with professionalism, accuracy, creativity and a stronger understanding of contemporary media practice.

Enaibo further expressed appreciation to his colleagues, supporters and everyone who contributed to his successful participation in the programme, while giving glory to God for bringing the journey to a successful conclusion.

He concluded with a reaffirmation of his commitment to journalism and storytelling, particularly the documentation and promotion of the culture, identity, history and contemporary realities of the Niger Delta.
