COMTUA accuses MWUN of  mere touting group under present leadership

Stanley Ihedigbo

Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Association (COMTUA) , has accused  Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of  Adewale Adeyanju, President-General as a mere touting group.

According to the  National Secretary
COMTUA, Com. Augustine Erhabour, their attention has been drawn to the reaction of MWUN on press release of 16th January, 2023.

“The response through the National Secretary of the association has nothing but denials and subtarfuge.
We shall clear some of the misrepresentations , that MWUN wrote to withdraw from COMTUA is not incorrect but that it has affected us negatively in anyway is laughable.

“We accepted MWUN’s resignation immediately while some more impactful association were not allowed to leave. The withdrawal of MWUN from COMTUA happened when it dawned on us that our relationship was parasitic against COMTUA, instead of the expected symbiosis one.

“The allegation of extortion points created by MWUN can only be denied by an irresponsible leadership who is benefiting greatly from it, as it is the case now. One would have expected a true leader to investigate and call for evidences, instead of the obdurate posture presented by the naive crop of leadership at the elms of affairs of MWUN in the current administration.

“Can the MWUN be reminded that in 2022, it took the intervention of the then organising secretary of COMTUA who is currently the president of the association to save the same Taofeek Shoriola from being imprisoned for the same allegation by NURTW. Was Taofeek Shoriola not suspended by the President General of MWUN who doubled as co BOT chairman of COMTUA in 2021 on similar matter?,” he said.

The National Secretary further , “Do we need to remind MWUN that Taofeek Shoriola was declared wanted after a petition Written by RTEAN on the Murder and destruction of properties was being investigated by the CP Port in 2021?

” What led to the death of four MWUN members as contained in MWUN’s petition before the CP Port in 2022, and where did this happen? We can go on and on. We have decided to use the lawful and most civil approach but MWUN should not be too convinced that their nuisance value can discount from the uprightness of the new crop of COMTUA in their favour.

“The MWUN we use to know have been reduced to a mere touting group under Prince Adewale Adeyanju. The law will take its toll on anyone or association who gain delight from breaking it,” he stated.
