Climate Change: FENRAD advocates for action in Nigeria through community engagement

Foundation For Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) team visited the erosion site at Eziama community in Ogbor Hill, Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State.

The visit aimed to assess the impacts of flooding and landslides on the community and engage with vulnerable families.

According to the Executive Director of the group, Com. Nnanna Nwafor, climate change is a pressing issue that affects humanity globally.

“Africa, including Nigeria, is expected to bear a disproportionate burden of the impacts. The poor and frontline communities will bear the biggest burden, with women and children being the worst hit,” he explained.

FENRAD, as an environmental rights advocacy campaigner and climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies expert, has been working to raise awareness and promote adaptation strategies.

The organization’s visit to the Eziama community was part of a project funded by NEWMAP EIB, with counterpart funding from the Abia State Government.

During the visit, FENRAD conducted an impact assessment of the flooding and landslides in the community. The team engaged with vulnerable families, listening to their experiences and challenges.

The assessment report will serve as a tool for engaging government and international agencies to support the victims whose livelihoods have been impacted by this natural disaster.
