Chief Kalu to mobilize protest in Washington, DC, UK for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

In a bid to garner international attention, Prominent businessman and Abia North senatorial hopeful, Chief Dr. Emeka Kalu Chief has announced plans to mobilize Nigerians in the diaspora to stage peaceful protests in Washington D.C. and the United Kingdom, demanding the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a statement tagged ‘An urgent plea for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’, made available to The Mirror, Kalu, said that with utmost respect and a sense of national duty, he wishes to draw the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria to the continued and indefinite detention of Mazi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to him, it is on record and public knowledge that Mazi Kanu has never been convicted of any crime involving violence or the taking of human life. His calls, though sometimes controversial, have always been centered on justice, equality, and the rights of his people to self-determination as enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

Meanwhile, it is disheartening and deeply troubling that many individuals who have taken up arms against the Nigerian state — those who have killed innocent citizens, soldiers, and police officers — have been granted amnesty and pardons in the name of reconciliation.

Yet, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who has not shed a drop of blood, remains behind bars under inhumane and unlawful conditions.

This selective application of justice breeds resentment and undermines the unity and peace the Government professes to seek. True reconciliation cannot be achieved while injustice continues to thrive.

The release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not only be a gesture of statesmanship and national healing but also a demonstration that this administration upholds the rule of law and the principle of equality before the law.

“In view of the prolonged silence and inaction, I wish to state that I am mobilizing Nigerians, particularly the Igbo in the diaspora, to organize peaceful demonstrations in Washington, D.C., the United Kingdom, and other international centers to call global attention to this injustice and demand the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Nigeria cannot move forward while the cries of injustice echo across its land. The release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will mark a new beginning — one founded on fairness, dialogue, and respect for human rights.

“I strongly appeal to your sense of justice, compassion, and patriotism to do what is right in the eyes of God and history. Let this be remembered as the moment Nigeria chose peace over vengeance, unity over division, and justice over political expediency.
