CCS alleges Anambra State Security outfit detained over 150 people without trial

Congress of Civil Society (CCS), Anambra State Chapter, has petitioned the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, over the alleged operation of an illegal detention camp by the state’s security outfit, Udo-Gachi.

According to the petition, signed by the group Chairman, Com. Damian Ogwudike, the security outfit has detained over 150 people in the camp since January 2025 without trial or due process.

The petition, signed by Damian Ogwudike, the Chairman of the Congress of Civil Society, Anambra State Chapter, alleges that the detention camp is being operated in contravention of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) and the law establishing the security outfit.

The petition demands the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees or, in the alternative, handing them over to the Nigerian Law enforcement agencies for prosecution.

It also calls for the dismantling of the illegal detention camp and compensation for the detainees for each day they have been held in detention.

The Congress of Civil Society has given the state government seven days to meet their demands, failing which they will take further legal action against the state government and the security outfit.

The petition has been copied to relevant authorities, including the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State and the Attorney General of Anambra State.

The allegations of human rights violations and illegal detention have raised concerns about the activities of the Udo-Gachi security outfit and the need for accountability and transparency in its operations.
