BenKhalifa on Davido’s Yola concert: A beacon of hope for northern Afrobeats

When the sound of Afrobeats echoed through Yola’s skyline during Davido’s Five Alive Tour, it wasn’t just music; it was a statement.

For many, it marked a new dawn for Northern Nigeria’s entertainment
landscape. Among the many voices that stood out that night was BenKhalifa, a singer, rapper, and creative artist who travelled all the way from Jos to be part of the historic event.

In an exclusive conversation with The Mirror, BenKhalifa expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity,
describing it as both a personal and a regional victory.

“I came all the way from Jos for the love of the industry. I know I deserved this spot and being picked from Jos to represent shows that hard work pays,” he began with confidence.

He went on to praise Davido’s choice of Adamawa State for the tour, calling it “a sign of growth and a proof that we are doing what the world is seeing.”

“For Davido to choose Adamawa over all the other northern states means a lot. It shows the North is no longer silent. The industry is ready. People are ready to support artists, just like paying taxes.”
BenKhalifa described the event as “the biggest opportunity not just for him but for the North as a whole,” emphasizing how the presence of one of Africa’s biggest superstars serves as validation for the region’s rising creative power.

“It’s Davido — the baddest, the 001! So, of course, he’s going to pull a massive crowd. That means more visibility for us upcoming artists, more content for the media, and more energy for the world to finally see what the North can do — both online and offline.”

Speaking with passion and humility, BenKhalifa called on investors and sponsors to turn their attention
toward Northern artists.

“I’m ready for work and the game,” he said. “Davido’s tour will show everyone — from sponsors to label heads — that peace and talent live here too. If Davido can come here and host a tour this big
successfully, then anyone can. That will grow our Northern Afrobeats market.”
Before wrapping up, he gave his heartfelt appreciation to Davido and also extended his gratitude to YolyBoy for his role in amplifying local voices.

“We want to say a big thank you to OBO, Baddest, 001 for choosing Adamawa State and coming to the North for his tour,” he said. “And special thanks to YolyBoy for the privilege. We pray this tour becomes a huge success.
