Atiku 2027: Goodluck Nigeria Movement unveils grassroots structure, says Nigeria needs experience, not experiments

Goodluck Nigeria Movement has formally endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, saying his policy proposals offer practical solutions to some of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.

The Convener of the Goodluck Nigeria Movement, Emma Umerah, said the endorsement represented a significant grassroots development ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

He further said it had taken the decision after reviewing various political options ahead of the 2027 elections, adding that it would deploy its grassroots structure across the 36 states and 774 Local Government Areas to support Atiku on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to him, Nigeria is currently facing an emergency requiring experienced leadership and a clear policy direction.

“Nigeria is in an emergency. We need a leader who has the capacity to execute. That leader is Atiku Abubakar,” the movement said in a statement.

The group described Atiku’s proposed agenda as a three-point rescue plan focusing on the effects of subsidy removal, insecurity and hunger.

On fuel subsidy removal, the Goodluck Nigeria Movement said Atiku had consistently maintained that subsidies must be removed to eliminate waste and financial leakages, but argued that the process must be accompanied by measures to protect vulnerable Nigerians.

It listed proposed interventions including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, mass transit, direct cash transfers to poor households and support for small businesses.
“We will remove the waste and protect the people,” the movement stated.

On insecurity, the group said Atiku’s proposed approach included community policing, modern security technology and special protection for farms and major highways.

The movement argued that improved security would have a direct impact on food prices and economic activities.

“When farms are safe, food will be cheap. When roads are safe, the economy will move,” it said.

The movement also highlighted agriculture as a major component of what it described as Atiku’s rescue agenda.

It said the former Vice President had proposed emergency agricultural interventions, including tractors for Local Government Areas, fertiliser support for farmers, as well as food hubs and grain reserves across the 774 LGAs.

“Nigeria must feed itself. Importing hunger is not a policy,” the group stated.

The Goodluck Nigeria Movement said its major strength would be its grassroots mobilisation network, which it claimed is already active across the 36 states and 774 LGAs.

It said billboards carrying the message, “Together for Nigeria — Goodluck Nigeria Movement: 36 States, 774 LGAs. Structure Ready,” had begun appearing in different parts of the country.

The movement also referenced former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying his political legacy demonstrated that the interest of Nigeria should remain greater than that of any individual.

“In 2025, Dr Goodluck Jonathan taught us that Nigeria is bigger than any man. In 2027, we will prove that structure is bigger than noise,” the movement said.

It described the Atiku 2027 campaign as a “rescue mission” aimed at providing what it called experienced leadership for Nigeria.

The movement pledged to continue its mobilisation efforts and work with stakeholders within the ADC platform toward the 2027 elections.
