APC Lagos launches council campaign, urges candidates to replicate Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu’s grassroots intervention

Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has urged the party’s 57 chairmanship candidates to emulate the good work of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in their respective local governments if elected on July 12.

Ojelabi emphasized that the candidate’s performance will be closely monitored, and only those who deliver on their promises will be considered for a second term.

Ojelabi gave this charge at the flag-off of the local council election campaign of the ruling party at the party secretariat in Acme, Ogba Lagos.

He said the Chairmen must reciprocate the particular gesture the party has given to them having been lucky to be among the 57 candidates of the party in the Chairmanship election.

“You need to assist the party knowing well that we have a total of 475 who participated in the process. At the end of the day, just only 57 of you are taken out of 475.

“We urge those of you who have gotten the ticket to continue to reach out until you can reconcile every aggrieved aspirant to your side. This will greatly help us, that is the assignment we want to give you.

“You have been given the ticket to contribute your quota towards developing Lagos State through your local governments.

“Look at what Mr President is doing in Nigeria today. We have three tiers of government. The Federal, state and local government President is doing his best at the Federal level, you can see the monumental achievement Mr. President has recorded in all ramifications. In economy, infrastructural development, empowerment, health and so on.

“You can see what the Governor of Lagos State is doing in all ramifications. Road construction, rehabilitation of schools, rehabilitation of health centers and so on. The onus is on you to build on what other tiers of government are doing. Replicate a similar thing in your local government because it is not going to be business as usual.

“We have directed that chairmanship candidates to let us have their blueprints. It is the blueprint that we will use as an assessment on yearly basis.

“If you perform and perform well, you will be considered for a second term and if you go the other way round, you are on your own.

“I want you to realize that you have a vice chairman. Your vice chairman is a joint ticket. Carry your Vice Chairman along in everything you are doing. If you are traveling out of the country, hand it over to your vice chairman, it is very very important.

“The person will monitor you. Aside from the oversight function that is going to be conducted by the Lagos State House of Assembly. You are representing us, you are carrying our banner and logo.

“The fact that you are carrying our banner, we owe it a responsibility to monitor you and see what you are doing.

“Give the leaders their full respect in your respective local governments. You can’t have the experience they have gotten in all ramifications, share your views with them, share what you intend to do with them, and they will be able to guide you very well.

“If you listen to them, am pretty sure you will be able to win the hearts of the voters. This is a real election, we are going all out into this election. Any Chairmanship candidates or councilorship candidates found wanting in reaching out, knocking at the door, soliciting for support, soliciting for votes, we will sanction such a candidate.

“I want to plead that you work with your party Chairman, work with the LOC, work with the canvassers. We are going to appoint canvassers that are going to do the job as expected. Like I said it is not going to be business as usual”.
