Anambra security architecture earns praise as CP Orutugu meets retired senior officers

As part of the 2025 security and community engagement highlights, Anambra State recorded a remarkable influx of returnees during the ember months, a development widely attributed to improved security architecture, effective policing strategies and sustained collaboration between the Police and host communities across the State.

In furtherance of this positive security trend, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, received a delegation of retired senior police officers of Anambra origin and others at the Command Headquarters in Awka.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the retired officers, who paid separate courtesy visits to the Commissioner in his office, commended the leadership of the Anambra State Police Command for the visible improvement in security, the enhanced safety of residents and travellers, and the renewed public confidence witnessed during the traditionally sensitive ember-month period characterised by increased travel, festivities and social activities.

According to them, the massive homecoming of Anambra indigenes from across the country and the diaspora during the period was a strong indication that citizens now feel safer returning home to celebrate and reunite with their families.

Receiving the visitors, CP Orutugu expressed profound appreciation for the visits and described the large-scale return of indigenes as a clear reflection of improved safety, proactive policing and strong community cooperation.

He noted that sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations, inter-agency collaboration and continuous engagement with traditional rulers, community leaders and stakeholders had contributed significantly to the relative peace and stability enjoyed across the State.

The Commissioner further acknowledged the immense contributions and sacrifices of the retired senior officers during their years of active service, describing them as pillars whose professionalism, discipline and commitment laid the foundation for contemporary policing standards in Nigeria.

“Your dedication and selfless service to the nation remain a source of inspiration to serving officers. The gains we record today are built on the solid foundation you laid over the years,” CP Orutugu said.
Among the distinguished retired officers who visited the Commissioner were Assistant Inspector-General of Police Felix Osita Uyanna, mni (Rtd), former AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Assistant Inspector-General of Police Usman A. Gwari, who served in various strategic commands, including as AIG Zone 9, Umuahia, and Commissioner of Police, Anambra State; and Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ojukwu (Rtd), former Force Public Relations Officer, alongside other notable retired senior officers.

The retired officers urged the Command to sustain the tempo, deepen intelligence gathering, strengthen community policing and continue to prioritise professionalism and discipline in order to consolidate the security gains recorded in the State.

They also called for continuous mentorship of younger officers, stressing that experience-sharing and institutional memory remain vital in building a resilient and responsive Police Force.

The visits ended on a cordial note, with renewed commitments to cooperation, mentorship and continued support for the Nigeria Police Force in its ongoing drive to sustain peace, maintain law and order and enhance public safety across Anambra State.
