AIST announces winners of 2024 student video contest

Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) has announced the winners of the AIST Foundation Real Steel Video Contest.

The annual contest, sponsored by the AIST Foundation, Challenges University, and high school students to create three-minute videos that educate viewers about steelmaking.

The theme of this year’s contest was “Industry Advancements That Set Steel Apart.” During the public voting phase of the contest, the 26 video entries received more than 77,000 collective views.

The AIST Video Contest Committee, consisting of individuals from ANDRITZ Metals USA Inc., Carnegie Mellon University, Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., Colorado School of Mines and Steel Dynamics Inc. chose the winners.

Employee Development Manager, Steel Dynamics Inc., and chair of the AIST Video Contest Committee, Staci Beiswanger, said, “Congratulations to this year’s first-place winner of the Real Steel Video Contest Shivanand Verma from Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology in India.

This year’s students were challenged to create a three-minute video educating viewers on ‘Industry Advancements That Set Steel Apart.’ Key components of the videos included graduate interviews, as well as industry improvements in decarbonization, digitalization, safety, innovation, and inclusivity.”

The Grand Prize winner received US$3,000 and five entrants each received US$1,000.
